Samsung is planning a shake-up of its Galaxy S lineup with the 2027 release of the Galaxy S27 series, including the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, a new Galaxy S27 Pro, and the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The company is reportedly discontinuing its Edge series in favour of the new ‘Pro’ model, positioning it alongside the Ultra as a top-tier offering.
Key Upgrades Planned for 2027
Leaks indicate four major upgrades are in development for the Galaxy S27 series. These focus on enhancing performance and user experience across the board, with some features reserved for the higher-end models.
RAM and Storage Differentiation
The Galaxy S27 Pro 5G and Galaxy S27 Ultra 5G are expected to receive the latest LPDDR6 RAM, paired with UFS 5.1 storage for faster data access. However, the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ will retain the LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, suggesting a tiered approach to performance.
Powering Up: Battery and Charging
Samsung is addressing concerns about battery life with increased capacities for the Pro and Ultra models. The Galaxy S27 Pro will reportedly feature a 5,200mAh battery, while the Galaxy S27 Ultra will get a 5,700mAh battery. Both models will also support 60W wired charging.
Display Technology Advances
All four Galaxy S27 models – the S27, S27+, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra – are slated to receive a display upgrade with the new M16 OLED panels. These panels utilize Colour-Filter On-Encapsulation (COE) technology, promising improved colour output and increased battery efficiency through LTPO refresh rates. A ‘Privacy Display’ feature, similar to that found on some Xiaomi and TCL phones, is also speculated to be included across the range.
Chipset Variations
The Galaxy S27 series will utilise new processing power with the next-generation Exynos 2700 chipset. This is expected to be a 2nm-based processor, but its availability will be geographically limited. According to reports, Exynos 2700-powered Galaxy S27 phones will be sold in markets including India. In the U.S.A., Samsung will reportedly use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 for Galaxy processor instead.
Samsung is currently in the pre-production phase for the Galaxy S27 series, with an official launch expected in the first quarter of 2027.
