The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are now available to consumers, and while attention has focused on features like the variable aperture camera, Burgundy colour option, and battery life, a significant internal redesign is being largely overlooked.
A New Internal Layout
Apple has fundamentally altered the internal arrangement of the iPhone 18 Pro, changing how components are positioned within the device’s body. This wasn’t simply about adding new parts; it was about making the design more efficient, according to TelecomTalk. This efficiency gain is the key to several improvements.
The redesigned layout directly enabled the inclusion of a larger vapor chamber cooling system. While the vapor chamber itself is generating discussion, the reason it could be implemented is the more efficient internal structure. This is particularly impactful when recording 4K video, a task that previously caused significant iPhone overheating. The larger vapor chamber allows for sustained performance during extended 4K recording sessions.
Beyond cooling, the internal changes also contribute to improved battery efficiency. Apple achieved this by relocating the DRAM memory chip, moving it away from its traditional stacked position directly on top of the processor.
