OPPO has officially released ColorOS 17, its newest operating system built on Android 17, initially for the Chinese market. The company states the new OS is designed around a more fluid user experience.
Broader Reach for ColorOS
A key development with ColorOS 17 is its expansion beyond OPPO devices. OnePlus and Realme handsets will also receive the update, not only in China but also in India and globally for devices slated to receive Android 17. This marks a significant shift in OPPO’s software strategy.
Performance and AI Enhancements
ColorOS 17 introduces several new features aimed at improving performance and usability. These include:
- Polar Light Engine: Designed to reduce app load times by up to 25%.
- Tidal Engine: Aims to improve background app stability by approximately 55.6%.
- Rendering Workload Reduction: The Polar Light Engine also reduces the rendering workload by around 30%.
The update also brings OPPOAI, featuring the next-generation Xiaobu AI assistant. This assistant includes several components:
- Xiaobu Space: A dedicated area for the AI assistant.
- Xiaobu Calls Tool: Enhancements to call functionality.
- Xiaobu and ME Section: A personalized section for the user.
- Xiaobu Memory: Offers AI-powered one-click memory flash.
Further AI integration comes in the form of an AI Retoucher within the Photos app, and a redesigned AI Notes tool offering one-tap sharing and inspiration cards.
Rollout Schedule
The OPPO Find N6 is scheduled to receive the ColorOS 17 update on October 8, 2026. The OPPO Find X9 series, OnePlus 15T, and Realme GT 8 Pro will also be updated on the same date. Additional devices are expected to follow throughout October 2026.
