Indian technology company MagTapp is refocusing its browser around artificial intelligence, following the achievement of over six million downloads. The company announced on September 28 that its browser now incorporates Alpie AI models from technology partner 169Pi, integrating AI directly into core browsing functions.
This expansion to AI-powered features marks a shift for MagTapp, which previously focused on visual learning and browsing. The company participated in the Government of India’s Indian Web Browser Development Challenge, being selected as one of eight teams involved.
MagTapp reports having more than 143,000 ratings and reviews on the Google Play Store, averaging a 4.2-star rating, and boasts a user base spanning 106 countries. After years of development on Android, MagTapp is now extending its redesigned browser to iOS, with the application currently listed on the Apple App Store in India.
The AI-first approach distinguishes MagTapp by embedding intelligence directly into the browsing experience, rather than relying on a separate chatbot interface. Users can now leverage AI to:
- Search for information and receive direct answers
- Summarise PDF documents and other content
- Translate content into multiple languages
- Obtain visual explanations for unfamiliar words and concepts
Beyond these core AI capabilities, MagTapp combines features like a document reader, visual meanings, and multilingual support. The iOS version specifically highlights translation, document reading, and editing functionality.
MagTapp’s plans extend beyond the current release, with the company intending to introduce further AI capabilities, a desktop version of the browser, a larger application suite, and interconnected experiences across devices. This comes as more browser companies integrate AI directly into web activities, aiming to provide search, summarisation, and translation within the browser itself.
