Samsung is preparing to launch its next generation of flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S27 series, in the first quarter of 2027 – potentially between January and March. The lineup will consist of four models: the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27 Plus, Galaxy S27 Pro, and the high-end Galaxy S27 Ultra.
Display Technology Takes Centre Stage
A key focus for the Galaxy S27 series appears to be display technology. All three models – the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27 Pro, and Galaxy S27+ – will receive an upgrade to the Samsung M16 OLED panel, a step up from the M14 OLED panels found in the Galaxy S26 series. The top-tier Galaxy S27 Ultra 5G will also utilise the M16 OLED panel, the same technology currently powering the latest Apple iPhone Duo.
The M16 OLED panels offer several improvements, including higher brightness, improved battery efficiency, and more accurate colour reproduction. They also boast increased durability thanks to additional layers, and support Colour-Filter On-Encapsulation (COE) technology for even better colour performance.
Processor and Battery Improvements
Under the hood, the Galaxy S27 series will see upgrades to the processor, RAM, and storage. Samsung is reportedly considering a return to using both Exynos and Qualcomm chipsets. According to leaks, the Galaxy S27 models sold in the U.S.A. will be powered by the Qualcomm 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. The Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27 Plus, and Galaxy S27 Pro will likely use the Exynos 2700 chipset, which is expected to launch in December 2026.
Samsung is also exploring a switch to silicon-carbon batteries for improved capacity and performance across the S27 range.
Design and Features
Leaks suggest a design shift for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, with a potential move to a pill-shaped rear camera arrangement. The Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27 Plus are expected to retain the camera design of the Galaxy S26 models. Furthermore, Samsung plans to expand its Privacy Tech feature, currently exclusive to the Ultra model, to all devices in the Galaxy S27 lineup.
No S27 Edge
Notably, reports indicate Samsung will not be launching a Galaxy S27 Edge 5G model in 2027, potentially to avoid direct competition with Apple’s iPhone Air series, TelecomTalk reports.
