PayU, a major payments processing platform in India, has integrated Apple Pay into its merchant network, following Apple’s recent launch of the service in the country. This move will allow millions of Indian merchants using PayU’s payment gateways to accept payments via Apple Pay.
Limited Initial Bank Support
Apple’s initial rollout of Apple Pay in India is currently limited to Axis Bank customers. According to TelecomTalk, users of other major banks, such as HDFC Bank, are not yet able to utilise the service, though Apple is expected to onboard additional banks in the near future.
Expanding Apple Pay’s Reach
The integration with PayU significantly broadens the potential reach of Apple Pay within India, making it available to a wider range of businesses and, ultimately, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch users. Currently, Apple Pay is not available for Mac devices in India.
PayU’s Role in the Integration
Nikhil Mehta, Senior Vice President, Partnerships and Business Head, Growth Initiatives at PayU, said the company is proud to bring Apple Pay to hundreds of thousands of Indian merchants, enabling more secure and seamless digital payments. Mehta also stated that PayU will assist merchants with the technical integration and compliance processes required to accept Apple Pay.

In related news, Apple is preparing to launch its first foldable iPhone, dubbed the ‘iPhone Duo’, in India. The device will have a starting price of Rs 2,99,900, with limited impact expected from available bank offers, according to TelecomTalk.
