Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro 5G series in India, addressing a key complaint from some fans: the absence of a black colour variant in the iPhone 17 Pro line-up. The new series offers four finishes – Black, Burgundy, Glacier, and Silver – providing a wider range of aesthetic choices.
A Return to Matte Black
The return of black is particularly noteworthy, as Apple skipped the colour for the iPhone 17 Pro, following previous appearances in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro. The iPhone 18 Pro’s black finish is described as matte black, and is paired with an aluminium body – a departure from the titanium used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models.
Colour Options and Pricing
While the Burgundy colour is anticipated to be a popular choice, the reintroduction of black is seen as a significant improvement by some. The Silver option remains available as a standard choice for customers unsure of their preference. The base iPhone 18 Pro model, with 256GB of storage, starts at Rs 1,64,900. The same colour options are also available for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Availability and Purchasing Options
Both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are currently available for pre-order in India. From tomorrow, the devices will also be available through Zepto, a quick-commerce platform, offering home delivery within minutes. For customers wishing to trade in an older device, visiting an official Apple retail store is recommended. Apple has been expanding its retail presence in India, with the first store in Mumbai inaugurated by Tim Cook.
Under the Hood
The iPhone 18 Pro is powered by the A20 Pro chip and features a large battery. The iPhone 18 Pro Max boasts the largest battery ever featured in an iPhone. Apple has attributed the high prices, in part, to ongoing memory shortages, impacting not only the iPhone 18 Pro but also older models like the iPhone 17, iPhone 16, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17e.
Alongside the Pro models, Apple also launched the iPhone Duo, available in White and Black colour options.
