Redmi has unveiled the Note 17 Pro Max 5G, a new smartphone focused on endurance and durability. While sharing design similarities with the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, the Max variant distinguishes itself with a significantly larger battery and enhanced durability features.
Design and Build
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G maintains a familiar aesthetic to its sibling, featuring a SIM card slot, speaker grille, and Type-C port at the bottom. The right side houses volume rockers and the power button, while the top includes an IR sensor. The rear camera island boasts a 50MP OIS camera alongside an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, offering drop resistance from up to 3 meters. The device uses a plastic frame, but some variants include a fiberglass infused body for increased resilience.
Display Features
The phone features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. It supports a 12-bit colour depth and boasts high brightness levels, reaching up to 3500nits peak and 2000nits high brightness. Touch responsiveness is also a focus, with 240Hz touch sampling rate and 3200Hz instant touch sampling rate for gaming.
Camera and Performance
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is equipped with a dual-camera system, featuring a 50MP AI OIS main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. It supports 4K video recording at 30fps – a feature not available on the standard Note 17 Pro 5G – as well as 1080p video at 60fps, and 20x digital zoom. Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 SoC. Xiaomi promises four years of OS updates and six years of security patches. The RAM is expandable up to 24GB.
Battery and Durability
The standout feature of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is its massive 10000mAh battery, supported by 100W wired fast-charging and 27W reverse wired charging. Xiaomi claims the battery will retain its health for six years and support 1600 charge cycles. The phone also boasts impressive IP ratings – IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K – providing resistance to water and dust. Xiaomi demonstrated underwater photography capabilities, and claims the device can be submerged up to 2 meters for up to 72 hours.
Pricing and Availability
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is available in the following configurations:
- 8GB + 256GB: Rs 49,999
- 12GB + 256GB: Rs 54,999
Xiaomi emphasises that the phone isn’t positioned as a performance powerhouse, but rather as a long-lasting companion. It offers creator-focused features like dual video recording, though it lacks 4K 60fps support. While the Rs 50,000 price point places it in a competitive segment, the device’s exceptional battery life and durability make it a unique offering.
